A child born to unmarried parents does not have a legal father. The father's name won't even appear on the birth certificate. But one simple, loving gesture can change all that. If you're an unmarried parent, New Jersey has a simple process for you to establish paternity without you having to go to court.

The process is easy. All unmarried parent's have to do is sign a Certificate of Parentage form at one of our designated locations. You can also print out the on-line form and follow the instructions on this website for completing the form.
